Thrift Store Makeover 2

I decided to get more adventurous with my thrift store transformation this time!
Before:

Shirt dresses have their place, but this just isn't one.  I decided that I'd try going for a sundress.  So, I first cut off the sleeves and the top part of the collar (this ended up being kinda messy, but the former seams don't show in the finished product, so it turned out okay) and cut the seam that goes on top of your shoulder.  Then, I folded down and sewed the fabric to make it go straight across my chest making a strapless dress.  Since I cut off the sleeves, I also had to sew up the sides also.  Finally, I hemmed up the bottom of the dress... a lot.
The finished product just didn't look right, so I had my sister, Bee, look at it, and she suggested a black belt to cover up the elastic at the waist.  It worked!

Cinnamon Apple Squares

This recipe reminded me so much of Christmas-- as it was baking, the whole kitchen filled with the scent of cinnamon.  It was delightful!

Ingredients
2 cups flour
2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups (2 medium) peeled, finely chopped apples
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg

Directions
Preheat oven to 350.  In a large bowl, combine the first 3 ingredients; blend at low speed until crumbly.  Stir in pecans.  Press 2 3/4 cup crumbly mixture into greased 9x13 pyrex dish.
To remaining crumble mixture add everything else but the apples.  Blend well, then slowly add apples.  Spoon evenly over crumble base.
Bake 30-40 minutes until done.  Cool.  Cut into squares and serve with ice ream or whipped cream.
